Maximalism, a direct response against minimalism favoring the idea "More is More." A gross amount of loud, vibrant colors, textures, and patterns. Maximalism is all about adding extra embellishments and then the extra layer, and then adding even more on top of that. Maximalism is often times compared to ostentatious displays of the extensive possessions of the higher class or the obsessive collecting of hoarders. This huge gap left for interpretation intrigues me. The showy nature of Maximalism is contructed using fabrics, blankets, and wrapping paper that I was able to find
at thrift stores.
A gentle soul from a small town in Pennsylvania, Miss AJ lived in her own world. She was adopted by a family that did not see her value; she had never had her picture in a photo album. On a return home, I surprised her with her very own photographs. I will never forget her telling me in tears, "I thought I would pass without anyone having ever taken my photograph, thank you."
